Day One: Enter His Rest Prayer Challenge

Read the following Bible verses and meditation slowly (preferably outloud if you can), one at a time. Pause between each verse and close your eyes and rest for a moment. Let the words wash over you. Write down whatever stands out to you from each verse and from the final mediation. Take your time...

The LORD God then called to the man and asked him: Where are you? (Gen 3:9)

My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)

I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

Meditation:

My dear precious children, how I long to be your comforter. Come to me so that I can give you rest. No longer turn to the things of this world to give you comfort. There are so many distractions with which you are bombarded every day, and you turn so often to these things when you are feeling stressed or sad or lonely or overwhelmed. Do you not know that I, your Father, long to care for you? I rise to bring you comfort, yet few turn and respond. My heart breaks for my lost and lonely children. You have forgotten the sound of my voice. If only you would turn and discover that my voice is not one of anger and condemnation, but one of gentleness and love. I see the broken heart under your sin, and I long for you to come close enough that I can touch you, so your heart can be healed. Your own efforts and distractions apart from me will not free you from the bondage of sin, anxiety, and despair. Remember apart from me, you can do nothing, So do not be afraid to run to me in your moment of weakness and shame. As in the garden, I am calling for you and looking for you in the moment of darkness. Do not hide your face from me. Turn and experience my love for you that never changes or fades. You do not need to prove yourself to me, just come and receive my unconditional love that heals you and brings you life.

Questions for journaling:

1. As you read these verses and mediation, what stood out to you? Does a picture form in your mind as you turn the words over in your mind? Does it remind you of a situation, relationship or circumstance you are facing now in your life?

2. What do these verses and meditation communicate to you about the heart of God?

3. What did you sense the Lord communicating to you through these words? What do you think He wants you to know?

4. Take some time to form a prayer that DECLARES the truth God is speaking to you today. Lord today you showed me that…. Lord today you revealed to me…

5. What was the central truth about your identity or your relationship with God that was revealed to you today? Sum it up in a sentence or two. ex.) I am….. God is….

6. Now open yourself today and the rest of this week to RECEIVING this truth experientially from the Lord and through other people. The Lord doesn’t just want to communicate His truth to you in words, but also through experiences with Him and other people. Be open to engaging with this truth and come back to jot down what you noticed.
